Regier Lake Trail
Regier Lake Trail — one of 5 Backyard Trails near Daajing Giids
The most challenging of the five Backyard hikes behind Daajing Giids. Allow plenty of daylight for this mostly uphill hike. Once you climb the ridge you will find a botanist's delight in late spring — calypso orchids, single delight, miners' lettuce, bog laurel, Labrador tea, cloudberry, and heather.
Rating: Moderate to Difficult
Distance: 1.8 km one-way
Elevation gain: 1,115 ft
Time: 2–3 hours each way
To find the trailhead: travel to the east end of Daajing Giids, turn left onto 3rd Avenue (also called Forestry Hill). At the top, look for a dirt road to the left. Park on 3rd Avenue and walk up — there is no resident parking at the top. The trailhead is immediately to the right of a small storage shed. Look for pink spray-paint on a tree marking the start.
The trail is an uphill climb from the start. While rough, it is well marked with pink spray-paint, flagging tape, and arrow markers. The early section has blowdowns. As you climb higher the trail flattens into bog. Trail markers are scant here but the path toward the lake is obvious.
Regier Lake is quite beautiful — water lilies, an abundance of huckleberries in summer, and a few old growth cedars along the route. The bog environment is delicate; stay on the trail.
Note: Map is highly schematic and does not represent the lay of the route. Leave plenty of daylight.
