Old growth trees at Haans Creek

Haans Creek Loop Trail — salmon spawning grounds and old growth forest

Part of the Louise Dover Memorial Trail system, this 3.5 km lightly trafficked loop is located near Sandspit on the north end of Moresby Island. It offers wildlife viewing along spawning grounds for pink, chum, and coho salmon in fall, and Dolly Varden and steelhead in spring. Good for all skill levels.

Rating: All skill levels

Distance: 3.5 km loop

Rubber boots recommended

Note: adds an hour to follow main stream to lava pool with fossils

At the top of the loop, follow the main stream through spruce and hemlock. Trail markers end at a lava pool with fossils — worth the extra hour. The trail offers a glimpse into old growth forests and the chance to see some remarkable root formations.
