Durant Homestead Trail

Covenanted old growth corridor

Durant Homestead Trail — old corduroy road to an overgrown homestead

Access the old corduroy road (maintained until c. 2008) from 6.5 km on Lawn Hill Road North. Walk an unmistakable straight line for 30 minutes through a corridor of old growth left in surrounding logging slash and cedar plantation. At the end: an overgrown homestead with an overnight cabin stocked in good repair.

Access: 6.5 k on Lawn Hill Road North

Time: 30 minutes in

Gumboots required

Note: some slippery sections and windfall. Leave as found, sign guestbook.

After a survey peg and blazed tree, the trail opens onto an overgrown homestead with a functioning sauna, overgrown greenhouse with wooden sculptures, a garden gate, a cedar guesthouse, and a settler's refrigerator — a wooden box outside a window. A remarkable place. Leave everything as you found it and sign the guestbook.
